Hagiko

Hagiko is one of the shelter’s old-timers, having lived there since the Labco days. True to her reputation as the “Lady of the Stripes,” she possesses a truly formidable level of distrust. Having never found the right adopter, she eventually made the move with Labco all the way to the UKIKI Shelter in Matsumoto, Nagano.

Most of the time, she looks down upon the humans from a shelf high above the room. Anyone foolish enough to approach is promptly greeted with a hiss, and nobody is allowed any closer. Every once in a very great while, though, she will descend from her lofty perch and even agree to play. Do not make the mistake of thinking this means she has finally opened her heart to you. That door will slam shut again almost immediately.

And yet those rare, unpredictable moments of affection are precisely what make Hagiko so irresistible. She is still very much looking for her forever home! We’re looking for a patient challenger who is prepared to take things slowly, who can happily spend time simply watching a cat be a cat, and who has the persistence and determination to say, “Someday, I’m going to win you over.”
